(U.S. SENATE) – Senator Jon Tester’s new subcommittee chairmanship is already paying dividends for Montana veterans.
Tester this week introduced legislation that will improve the quality of care for veterans around the Big Sky State. The bill, which includes provisions to strengthen the Department of Veterans Affairs’ mental health and telemedicine initiatives, is based on feedback Tester received at his first subcommittee hearing in May.
Tester, who took over as the chairman of the Governmental Affairs subcommittee on the federal workforce and federal programs earlier this year, said the bill will benefit rural veterans and veterans suffering from mental health conditions like PTSD.

Speaking to an annual gathering of Inspectors General – federal investigators whose mission it is to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in government – Tester said the inspectors’ jobs are more critical than ever with taxpayer dollars “at a premium” and skepticism of government high after recent federal overreach.

(Washington) – Montana’s U.S. Senators Jon Tester and Max Baucus are ramping up efforts to hold government agencies accountable when it comes to tackling unemployment among veterans.
In letters to the Department of Labor and the Veterans Administration (online here) Tester and Baucus urge the agencies to release information detailing the effectiveness of six different programs designed to address unemployment among veterans.
Tester and Baucus introduced the Veterans Employment Transition Act or “VETs Act” of 2013 in January to increase opportunities for veterans to transfer military skills into the civilian workforce.
