Chairman Carper Highlights American Red Cross Month

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, released the following statement in response to President Obama’s proclamation naming March 2014 as American Red Cross Month:

“The American Red Cross has been a symbol of hope and compassion in our darkest times, and is a reminder to all of us of the resilience of the American spirit.  When Superstorm Sandy ravaged much of the East Coast, including my home state of Delaware, thousands of Americans answered the call and volunteered at Red Cross shelters in communities throughout the northeast. This March, as we honor the American Red Cross, I would like to thank all of the volunteers who devote their time and resources to the lifesaving work of service and relief organizations.  I encourage everyone to take some time this month to show their gratitude to volunteers and to explore the many ways that they can support the efforts of the American Red Cross.”
