WASHINGTON — The Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations will begin a series of hearings next week looking at some of the causes and consequences of the recent financial crisis. The first two hearings, to be held April 13 and April 16, will both use Washington Mutual Bank as a case history.
The first hearing in the series, Wall Street and the Financial Crisis: The Role of High Risk Home Loans, will be next Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 9:30 a.m., in Room 106 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. The hearing, which had previously been scheduled for March 25, 2010, was postponed. The hearing will focus on the role of high risk home loans in the financial crisis, using as a case history high risk home loans originated, sold, and securitized by Washington Mutual Bank. The subcommittee will hold a press briefing on Monday, April 12, to preview the first hearing.
The second hearing, which will focus on the role of bank regulators in the financial crisis, will be held on April 16. There will be a press briefing on Thursday, April 15, to preview the hearing.
