WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), chairman of the Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management (FSO) Subcommittee, took to the U.S. Senate floor to condemn the big spenders’ latest budget-busting funding deal.

“Both parties have deserted – have absolutely and utterly deserted – America and show no care and no understanding and no sympathy for the burden of debt they are leaving the taxpayers, the young, the next generation, and the future of our country. The very underpinnings of our country are being eroded and threatened by this debt,” Dr. Paul stated on the floor, noting that adoption of the deal “marks the death of the Tea Party movement in America.”

The budget deal, approved by the U.S. House of Representatives last week, deepens Washington’s addiction to runaway spending and continues the disregard for the country’s financial future that has led to a $22 trillion national debt. The legislation suspends the debt ceiling for two years, all while spending $320 billion above spending caps Congress already agreed to in the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011.

Once again responding with a conservative solution, Dr. Paul’s amendment to H.R. 3877 would restore fiscal responsibility on the federal level by cutting spending, instituting new budget caps, and requiring Congress to send the states a Balanced Budget Amendment for ratification before it can raise the debt ceiling.
