At a hearing on federal agencies and conference spending in February it was revealed that the government has spent over $1.4 billion on meetings and travel since 2000. The Subcommittee survey uncovered that this type of spending has increased 70% (at the very least) since 2000 and also revealed that many events supported by the agencies are not related to their core mission.
