THURSDAY: McCaskill to Lead Hearing on Oversight of Small Agencies
Senator will examine whether small federal agencies are getting adequate oversight
WASHINGTON – Continuing her work to strengthen accountability and oversight in the federal government, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill will hold a hearing Thursday on the oversight of small government agencies that do not have dedicated, independent watchdogs.
McCaskill’s hearing on oversight of small agencies will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, April 10.
The hearing will focus on the processes by which small agencies and other federal entities without statutory Inspectors General receive oversight. There are currently 41 federal agencies with a combined budgetary authority of over $1 billion that have no statutory Inspector General. The hearing will examine whether these agencies have adequate oversight and whether small offices of Inspectors General have access to the proper resources and authority to carry out their oversight mission.
