WASHINGTON – One of the biggest fraud investigations in U.S. Army history—focused on what had previously been considered one of the most successful recruiting programs ever—is set to be revealed and examined at a Tuesday morning hearing led by U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill.
McCaskill’s hearing on massive fraud in the Army National Guard’s Recruiting Assistance Program will begin at 10am ET on Tuesday. The hearing will be streamed online, HERE.
The Recruiting Assistance Program—which paid National Guard members, retirees, and civilians to recruit friends and family—was established at the height of the Iraq war in 2005 to help the Guard achieve its recruiting goals. The program was later expanded to the Army Reserve and Regular Army.
Tuesday morning’s hearing will reveal the result of an extensive investigation by McCaskill’s subcommittee and Army investigators revealing pervasive fraud and waste of taxpayer dollars. The hearing will also focus on how the Army can continue its efforts to identify and hold wrongdoers accountable, as well as improve contracting and recruiting controls and oversight.
