Senators Collins & Lieberman Statement On White House Intelligence Reform Proposal

“We welcome the proposed legislation that the White House has shared with us. Although we are still reviewing the Administration’s draft, we are pleased that the President has endorsed needed reforms such as the creation of a National Intelligence Director with budget authority. The Administration’s bill is not as comprehensive as the proposal we have already announced, but it nevertheless helps to maintain momentum toward getting comprehensive intelligence reform accomplished this year.

“We will consider the Collins-Lieberman intelligence reform bill in the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee next week and expect to report it for the full Senate to consider during the week of September 27th. We are grateful for the support that the 9/11 Commission Chairman Tom Kean and Vice Chairman Lee Hamilton have expressed for our efforts.”
