Possible Reforms to United States Postal Service Spotlighted at Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Hearing

WASHINGTON — The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee held a hearing Tuesday to discuss the report from the President’s Task Force on the United States Postal Service (USPS) – the report includes factors that have led to the postal service’s poor financial condition as well as recommendations on how to return the postal service to a sustainable business model so that it can continue to deliver service to all Americans.

“Although the president’s task force’s findings show the Post Office is facing serious and multi-faceted financial difficulties, it also identifies opportunities for the Postal Service to return to a more sustainable business model if its leadership and Congress have the will to act,” said Sen. Johnson. “It is my hope that today’s hearing helps shed light on the root causes of the Postal Service’s poor financial condition and can help shape the actions that the administration and Congress take to address it.”
