Johnson Statement on Census Director Nominee Steven Dillingham

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said this on Tuesday after the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted on a bipartisan basis to favorably report Steven Dillingham’s nomination to be director of the census to the full Senate:

“Having a qualified director in place ahead of the upcoming decennial census will help ensure that a smooth, accurate and secure count occurs. I’m pleased the committee agreed to advance Steven Dillingham on a bipartisan basis this evening, and encourage the Senate to act quickly to confirm him.”

Senator Johnson led a bipartisan letter to President Trump in June 2017, requesting the president take action to fully staff the Census Bureau ahead of the 2020 Census to ensure public confidence and bureau readiness. The letter can be found here.
