Johnson Introduces Bill to Require DHS to Provide Real Border Metrics

Washington — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, introduced the Department of Homeland Security Border Security Metrics Act of 2015 on Monday to require the Department of Homeland Security to provide regular, consistent, reliable, accessible metrics regarding the security of the U.S. borders.  Chairman Johnson made these comments regarding the legislation:

“Over the course of a series of hearings on border security held by our committee, we faced significant challenges in obtaining basic information regarding the security of our borders.  One way to improve border security is to properly define the problem.  The department should utilize metrics that truly define the security challenges existing at all of our borders — land, air and sea.  The DHS Border Security Metrics Act of 2015 will require that the Department of Homeland Security measure its success at our borders and then make this data accessible to Congress, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), law enforcement, researchers and the general public.”
