Johnson Applauds Trump Administration for Reining in Union ‘Dues Skimming’ from Medicaid Payments

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, applauded the Trump Administration on Tuesday after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it would rein in potential abuses of Medicaid payments. Sen. Johnson had this to say following the announcement:

“Union dues skimming diverts Medicaid funds from the very people that the program is supposed to help. I applaud the Trump Administration for taking the first steps to rein in this abuse. My committee will continue to conduct oversight of CMS’s stewardship of Medicaid funds so that American taxpayers can have confidence the funds flow to those in need.”

In a letter to CMS, Sen. Johnson recently called on the agency to address the practice of government employee unions “skimming” federal dollars from Medicaid beneficiaries before the payments are passed on to the recipients.
