LIEBERMAN SAYS GAO REPORT ON GOVERNMENT DUPLICATIONS POINTS TO IMPORTANT POTENTIAL SAVINGS

WASHINGTON – Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Tuesday issued the following statement in reaction to the Governmental Accountability Office’s (GAO) release of a report on overlapping programs within the federal government.

“With this report, GAO provides a battle plan for the ongoing war against wasteful federal spending. Its analysis of the government’s duplication of efforts points to billions of taxpayer dollars that could be saved by streamlining, improving efficiency, and strengthening competition. The weak economy and an unsupportable debt demand that we find cost savings wherever we can. This report points us in the right direction.”
