CASS SUNSTEIN CONFIRMED BY FULL SENATE

WASHINGTON—Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., Thursday applauded the confirmation of Cass Sunstein by the full Senate.  Sunstein, who will lead the Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), was confirmed by a vote of 57-40.

“Cass Sunstein has exceptional qualifications and extraordinary talents and will lead OIRA in a positive direction,” said Lieberman.  “His former boss at Harvard Law School, Elena Kagan, called him ‘the preeminent legal scholar of our time—the most wide-ranging, the most prolific, the most cited, and the most influential.’  Not too shabby.  I congratulate Mr. Sunstein on his confirmation and look forward to working with him on regulations that fulfill Congress’ intentions.”

The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approved Sunstein on May 20.  He previously taught at Harvard Law School and the University of Chicago Law School.
