Portman Named Ranking Member of New HSGAC Subcommittee on the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Federal Programs and the Federal Workforce
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), a former Director of the Office and Management and Budget, was named Ranking Republican of the Subcommittee on the Efficiency and Effectiveness of Federal Programs and the Federal Workforce, part of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC).
The new subcommittee has jurisdiction over the management, efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of agencies and departments of the government; the effectiveness of present national security methods, staffing, and processes; and the federal workforce, employee issues, compensation and benefits, and federal retirement programs.
“I am pleased to continue my service on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. I enjoyed working with Senator McCaskill last Congress on Contracting Oversight and look forward to the opportunity to serve with Senator Tester to review federal programs and the federal workforce,” said Portman. “An efficient government and reduced waste, fraud, and abuse will be vital to controlling government spending and creating conditions to grow our economy. We also need to ensure that the federal government is not needlessly standing in the way of getting Americans back to work.”
In the 112th Congress, Senator Portman advanced legislation to eliminate government waste and reduce barriers to growth by proposing reforms to regulatory structures, permitting processes, and worker retraining programs.
